Out with the Subie... in with the ... Hyundai?
OK, so it isnt the typical enthusiest car... but it has proven to be great so far.
Mainly wanted to post to show something new from Hyundai (for those that havnt seen it), and to review it with my thoughts and impressions. So about a month ago, I traded in my 2008 Subaru Sti for a 2010 Hyundai Tucson Limited AWD... Yes, I went from a 'fun' car to a 'boring' crossover/cuv/suv... But I have been very pleasantly surprised, and happy. I never drove the STi hard, and really, since I didnt drive it hard, was not enjoying it. (nothing against the car...just the driver. haha) And I want some more creature comforts. The new for 2010 Tucson is powered by a 176 HP 2.4 4 cyl.. with a 6 speed auto. It really is amazing (IMO) some of the stuff Hyundai did with the car. The Tranny for example, was designed completely in house, and used only 75% of the parts and weighs 37 pounds LESS than the old 5 speed auto. engine is an all aluminum, in house design, as seen in other vehicles. The car is rated at 21 city/29 highway.. .and in mixed driving (60 city/40hwy), I have been averaging about 25 mpg over the first 1300 miles. Not bad at all. It drives very well, has good pickup and better than expected acceleration. Suspension is firm, but not jarring, and has very little body roll (although I havnt driven it hard like I would a sportier car). it rolls on nice 18" alloys So how did they achieve good driving dynamics and gas mileage? well, aerodynamics... and weight.. or lack there of. it weighs about the same as my STi... despite being 25% bigger! Some of the specs and options - leather seats (very good quality leather), with dual stage heaters - Nav system w/bluetooth/xm/voice activation/streaming audio, etc - Full panoramic glass moonroof - back up camera, dual auto climate control, and more a couple neat things with the nav unit. You can actually enter stuff in while driving (something most in dash OEM units dont allow. they make you stop). Also, it has a mute button right on it. no scrolling through menus to turn the volume off. Has XM life traffic and weather as well. Two cool things - When I synced my iPhone with the bluetooth, it automatically uploads your whole address and phone book, so you dont have to do it manually - it has streaming audio via bluetooth. Dont even have to plug the iPod in (although it has a great interface for that, along with a regular USB slot). My iphone is synced, and plays the music without plugging it in through the AUX controls (and also shows your signal and battery life right on the Nav screen! - see pic) Any questions, feel free to ask! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Oh man I am jealous of the bluetooth streaming audio. That's one thing I'd really like to have in my car, but instead I have to use the shitty aux cable, and I'm not about to spend $400 for the ipod integration kit

Wow, very nice Barry. I'm in the same mindset as you currently. I'm not going to drive my car hard so why not get something comfy

I really like this new body style.
2011 turbo option?!?!!! I may have to make the WRX last a it longer hopefully (for me) you still in the business. Even the 2011 sonata is eye catching. |

That's a sweet crossover SUV. Hyundai will be a strong consideration once I'm done paying off the CR-V. I haven't seen audio over Bluetooth (A2DP) in a factory installed stereo but that is so awesome to have. Looks very comfy, I'm jealous!

what WOULD be nice is the rumored 2.4 turbo DI for the sonata limited (270+ hp...) Quote:
couple other cool things (sorry for the bad nightime iPhone pics) Blue interior lighting mainly (versus red, green or yellow). VERY nice on the eyes Also, split screen nav when you get close to turns. Shows the overall map on the left, and then a close up on the right. especially handy on highways with multiple lanes/exits, as it shows you which lane to get in, etc. ![]()
